Our approach
Four steps for every software project in small and mid-sized businesses. When AI is involved, four extra dimensions that need explicit attention.
This method underpins our full advisory offering. What else SEMANU does for SMBs as an independent software advisory firm is set out on the landing page.
From first call to operational system
A structured path, adapted to your context.
Listen
We sit down with operators, planners, engineers and management. The problem is rarely where management thinks it is.
Scope
We narrow down to one or two use cases with a real business case. Better one project that works than five that stall.
Specify
We write the specifications the development team or implementation partner needs: functional, evaluative and integration ready.
Validate
We accompany acceptance testing and stay involved through the first quarters of operation. Issues get caught early.
AI: four extra dimensions
When the project involves AI or machine learning, four additional dimensions need explicit attention. They are also the reason most AI projects fail when they are missing.
Decision boundaries
Which decisions does the AI take autonomously, which need a human in the loop and where exactly is the handover? In a regulated environment this is not only ethics. It is safety, labor law and CE marking.
Continuous evaluation
How do you know the AI is doing well, not only at handover but six months in? We define metrics, test sets, drift indicators and thresholds before a single line of code is written.
Data and integration
Which data do you need, in what quality and who owns it? AI plugs into existing landscapes of ERP, MES, sensors and spreadsheets. Not the other way around.
Production reality
Latency, reliability and integration with operational technology are hard constraints. A hallucinating AI that stops the line is expensive. We treat production as the first class citizen it is.
